Don Smith 1944 -2008

Mr. Donald Harold Smith, age 64, of Greenville, SC, formerly of Ellijay, GA, passed from this life on Friday, September 5th, 2008, from Greenville Memorial Hospital. He was a member and attended 1st Baptist Church and East Ellijay Baptist Church. Born February 26th, 1944, to his late parents, Gorden Elmo Smith, and Ethel Ruth (Cool) in Miami, FL., an honorably discharged U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam war on a mine sweeper, employed with National Airlines, Beaverlake Community Properties, and Lockheed-Martin in Greenville, SC, where he refurbished U.S. Navy reconnaissance aircraft. He was an active member of the National Council of Corvette Clubs, and was named National Champion in 2002.

Mr. Smith is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Trina Smith and Craig Heyrman of Sandy Springs, GA., and Vikki and Kenneth Martin of Ellijay, GA; granddaughters, Kendra, Essie and Moriah Martin, and Claire and Sarah Heyrman; brother, Harry William Smith of Chuluota, FL.; and former spouse, Penelope Peet Smith of Ellijay, GA. Don was a dedicated Carolina Corvette Club member and his "Pink Panther" Anniversary Convertible Corvette will be missed.  A memorial brick at the Corvette Museum sponsored by the Carolina Corvette Club was dedicated on May 23, 2010.
